Arsenal penalized for response to Lewis-Skelly’s red card
Arsenal has been penalized £65,000 for not managing their players properly after Myles Lewis-Skelly received a red card in their Premier League victory at Wolves.
The Football Association (FA) accused Arsenal of not making certain their players “behaved properly,” at Molineux on January 25.
The club acknowledged the accusation before an independent regulatory body enforced the penalty.
In the 43rd minute of their 1-0 win, Arsenal players circled referee Michael Oliver after he issued a straight red card to Lewis-Skelly for fouling Matt Doherty.
Video assistant referee (VAR) Darren England confirmed Oliver’s ruling that Lewis-Skelly engaged in severe foul play.
The Gunners challenged the ruling, leading to the 18-year-old’s three-match suspension being revoked.
Following the match, the referees’ organization Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) announced that law enforcement was looking into “threats and abuse” aimed at Oliver and his family on social media.
