Jason Kelce shares his choice between backing brother Travis or his old squad in Super Bowl LIX
Similar to two years prior, Jason Kelce faces divided loyalties in Super Bowl LIX.
The NFL’s season-ending game on February 9 in New Orleans will feature his old team, the Philadelphia Eagles, competing against the Kansas City Chiefs, which includes his brother Travis.
In Super Bowl LVII, the two teams competed, marking the first championship match to have two brothers on opposing sides, with Travis and the Chiefs emerging victorious in Arizona that occasion.
Jason has retired now, but after dedicating his entire 13-year playing career to the Eagles, he has divided loyalties between both teams.
During Wednesday’s episode of the “New Heights” podcast that he co-hosts with Travis, Jason disclosed his loyalties just over a week and a half before Super Bowl LIX.
“Here’s the most important point.” Clearly, you are my sibling. I will always support my brother. “That’s the truth of the matter,” Jason, donning an Eagles cap and jacket, clarified. “Although I’m dressed in Eagles apparel, I’m continuously cheering for Travis.”
“However, many individuals in the Philadelphia organization – including players, coaches, and staff – feel like additional family to me, particularly my past offensive linemen.” In many respects, Lane Johnson, the right tackle, feels like a sibling. I’m cheering for those guys as well. I’m cheering for Philadelphia and I’m cheering for Travis Kelce. That’s how it truly is. “No matter how the game turns out, I will be pleased for one team and disappointed for the other.”
He also acknowledged the parallels with the previous Super Bowl matchup between the two teams, noting that it will likely be a “little bit less intense” since he won’t be playing this time.
“I believe it will be quite alike, I truly do.” “I reside in Philadelphia and continue to visit the facilities quite frequently,” he stated. “I continue to believe that I am a Philadelphia Eagle and that I belong to all those who support and cheer for our team.”
“I would be dishonest if I claimed I don’t want the Eagles to triumph, but I equally want Travis Kelce to succeed.” That’s a roundabout way of expressing that I simply want to witness a great football match, regardless of who comes out on top.
Travis proposed that Jason should get a half-and-half sweater like the one their mother Donna wore at Super Bowl LVII, featuring one side in green for the Eagles and the other in red for the Chiefs. However, Jason swiftly dismissed the notion, stating he cannot don red.
When questioned about his emotions leading up to his fifth Super Bowl, Travis responded that he’s “feeling great.”
“Life is incredible.” “It’s a wild sensation to have such luck in a game that you’ve dedicated your whole life to, man,” the 35-year-old Chiefs tight end remarked.
“I’ve experienced plenty of heartbreak, faced many moments that weren’t as sweet, and at this moment, I’m simply enjoying the thrill of living this dream alongside my brothers and everyone in Kansas City.”
