Arsenal announce Havertz will miss the remainder of the season and requires surgery
Arsenal have announced that forward Kai Havertz will be sidelined for the remainder of the season due to a hamstring injury suffered in the team’s training camp in Dubai.
The Premier League team reports that the 25-year-old will need surgery and is anticipated to carry on his recovery into the pre-season for the 2025-26 season.
Havertz’s unavailability will result in the north Londoners lacking a designated striker for the rest of this season.
The Athletic was the first to announce a torn hamstring, suggesting that his season would probably be finished, externally.
Arsenal announced, externally: “We can confirm that during a training session in Dubai last week, Kai Havertz suffered a hamstring injury.”
“Further evaluations and expert opinions have verified that the injury necessitates surgery, which is set to occur in the next few days.”
Shortly after his surgery, Kai will start his recovery and rehabilitation process, which is anticipated to carry over into the pre-season training for the upcoming season.
“All members of the club are completely dedicated to helping Kai regain his full fitness as quickly as they can.”
Manager Mikel Arteta is expected to address Havertz’s injury absence at Friday’s press conference ahead of his team’s match against Leicester City on Saturday.
Striker Gabriel Jesus has undergone surgery for an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, while key forward Bukayo Saka has had an operation for a hamstring injury he sustained in December.
Gabriel Martinelli sustained a hamstring injury last week during the Carabao Cup loss to Newcastle and is said to be sidelined for “over a month.”
With Havertz now included in that injury list, Arteta will find himself severely lacking in goal scorers after the club failed to acquire attacking reinforcements during the January transfer window. The Spanish manager expressed his “disappointment” over the inactivity following the rejection of an offer for Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.
Speculation connecting them to Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, Wolves’ Matheus Cunha, Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, and Brighton’s Evan Ferguson led to no outcome.
Criticism had already been directed at Arsenal prior to these injury issues, with numerous pundits and supporters proposing they required a forward to sustain aspirations of competing for a title.
Arteta mentioned last week that Havertz may need to begin each match for the remainder of the season, noting that his alternative choices for the position include wingers Leandro Trossard, Raheem Sterling, and Ethan Nwaneri.
Arsenal departed for warm-weather training last Thursday following their elimination from the EFL Cup by Newcastle in the semi-finals. They were not part of this weekend’s FA Cup matches after their third-round loss to Manchester United.
Last year, following a comparable break, Arsenal proceeded to secure victories in 16 of their subsequent 18 matches.
They are in second place in the Premier League, seven points behind the top team Liverpool.
