Nepal international forward Subash Bam Thakuri has signed with Azerbaijan's Turan Tovuz, with the move announced on September 8, 2026, as the 18-year-old takes his developing football career from Nepal to Azerbaijan. Subash shared a photograph of himself signing the agreement on social media, while reports surrounding the move say he is set to begin with Turan Tovuz's U-19 team, providing him with an opportunity to train and compete in a European football environment and potentially work his way toward senior football.

Subash Announces His New Chapter

The move is no longer based only on reports circulating around Nepali football.

Subash himself has publicly announced his move to Turan Tovuz, sharing a photograph showing him signing an agreement with the Azerbaijani club.

The announcement marks one of the biggest steps so far in the young forward's career.

Turan Tovuz competes in the Azerbaijan Premier League, the country's highest level of professional football, and also operates youth teams including an U-19 side.

From Kalikot to the National Team

Subash's journey to this point began far from European football.

Born on September 5, 2008, Subash grew through Nepal's youth football system and developed at the ANFA Academy in Butwal.

His attacking performances gradually brought him into Nepal's youth national teams, where he established himself as one of the country's promising young forwards.

He has played both as a winger and in more central attacking positions.

The Goal Against India That Turned Heads

One of Subash's memorable early international moments came during the 2022 SAFF U-17 Championship.

Nepal faced India in Colombo on September 9, 2022, and Subash scored in the 68th minute as Nepal completed an impressive 3-1 victory.

The performance helped bring greater attention to a player who was still at the beginning of his youth career.

He Went From Prospect to Captain

Subash continued climbing through Nepal's youth setup.

He captained Nepal at U-16 level in 2023 and later led the U-17 national team in 2024, gaining experience and responsibility while still in his mid-teens.

His performances at club youth level also stood out.

Subash scored 14 goals in 13 matches during the U-16 Youth League held across 2023 and 2024, finishing as the competition's second-highest scorer.

Nepal Debut at Just 16

His progress eventually earned him a place with Nepal's senior national team.

Subash made his senior international debut against Singapore on March 21, 2025, entering the match in the 60th minute as Nepal secured a 1-0 victory.

He was only 16 years old.

After representing Nepal at youth level, Subash made the jump to the senior national team in March 2025, debuting against Singapore at just 16. Azerbaijan is not Subash's first experience of football outside his home country.

But joining the youth setup does not automatically guarantee promotion to Turan Tovuz's senior team.

That makes Subash's move significant beyond one player's career.
