Proving Natural Bodybuilding Can Reach the International Stage, Nepal’s Niral Thapa Wins Silver in Thailand
Nepali fitness athlete Niral Thapa has added an international silver medal in Thailand to a journey that already includes national-level Sports Physique success, professional fitness certification and leadership in Nepal’s calisthenics community. Representing Nepal at the PCA BKK Naturals 2 competition in Bangkok, Thapa’s latest achievement also strengthens the message he has been promoting: athletes can pursue international recognition while remaining committed to natural fitness.

From Nepal to an International Podium
Nepali athlete Niral Thapa represented Nepal and secured a silver medal in Men’s Physique at PCA BKK Naturals 2 in Bangkok, Thailand, on August 30, 2026, taking his competitive fitness journey onto an international natural-bodybuilding stage. Held at Mambo Entertainment, the PCA Thailand event was organised under a non-drug policy, making Thapa’s performance particularly meaningful to his message of promoting natural and safer bodybuilding.
His Thailand appearance was not the beginning of his fitness journey. Public records show a progression through professional fitness education, involvement with Nepal Youth Fitness & Calisthenics, national Sports Physique competitions and eventually an international natural event.
A Fitness Foundation Dating Back Years
Thapa’s publicly documented connection to professional fitness can be traced back to at least 2021.
Records published by the Nepali Youth Fitness Academy list him among the first batch of Certified Personal Trainers trained under its full-scholarship scheme. He was listed as CPT certification number 0006, with certification beginning on September 1, 2021.
That background is important to understanding his development. His involvement in fitness has not been limited to preparing his own physique for competition; he also developed formal knowledge as a trainer.
Taking a Leadership Role in Nepal’s Fitness Community
Thapa later became closely involved with Nepal Youth Fitness & Calisthenics (NYFC), an organisation that says it began with four people exercising together before growing into a wider movement encouraging young Nepalis to practise calisthenics.
NYFC currently lists Niral Thapa as its Vice-President.
His position connects his personal competitive journey with a broader fitness community in Nepal, where calisthenics, strength training, physical conditioning and evidence-based fitness have gradually attracted a larger young audience.
Winning at the Mr Kathmandu Stage
Before reaching the international stage in Thailand, Thapa had already produced a notable result in Nepal.
At the fifth Mr Kathmandu Bodybuilding Competition, organised by the Kathmandu District Bodybuilding and Fitness Association, Thapa represented Nepali Youth Fitness & Calisthenics in Sports Physique.
He finished first in the Men’s Sports Physique over-170 cm category, ahead of Gyaneshwor Chaudhary of Iron Paradise Fitness and Spa and Akash Shrestha of Fitness Garage.
The wider competition attracted 208 athletes, making Thapa’s category victory an important result in his domestic competitive record.
Another Podium at the Dharmashree
His competitive journey continued at one of Nepal’s established bodybuilding events, the 17th Dharmashree Bodybuilding Competition in Kathmandu in March 2025.
Thapa successfully progressed through the pre-judging round to reach the final in Men’s Sports Physique.
In the final, representing NYFC, he secured second place in the Men’s Sports Physique under-170 cm category. Akash Shrestha of Power Physical Fitness won the category, while Tribhuvan Army Club’s Ramesh Phombo finished third.
The result put Thapa on another major domestic podium and provided further evidence of his consistency in competitive physique events.
A Progression From National to International Competition
Taken together, the publicly available results show a clear competitive progression.
Thapa moved from developing professional fitness credentials to taking a leadership role in NYFC, winning a Sports Physique category at Mr Kathmandu and later finishing runner-up at the Dharmashree competition.
His next major step took him beyond Nepal.
In August 2026, he travelled to Thailand to compete at PCA BKK Naturals 2, placing himself on a stage alongside athletes competing under PCA Thailand’s natural-bodybuilding framework.
What Exactly Is Men’s Physique?
Men’s Physique is a distinct competitive category within the Physical Culture Association (PCA) rather than simply another name for traditional bodybuilding.
PCA’s competition structure includes Men’s Physique divisions, with athletes judged according to specific physique and presentation criteria.
The category puts importance on the competitor’s overall physical presentation, proportions, conditioning and stage presence. It therefore differs from traditional bodybuilding categories where greater muscular mass can play a more dominant role.
For Thapa, competing in Men’s Physique represents the competitive side of the fitness journey he has pursued for years.
Why the ‘Natural’ Part Matters
The word “natural” is central to the Thailand story.
PCA’s official registration information identifies BKK Naturals 2 as a natural competition and explicitly states a non-drug policy for the August 30 event.
PCA Thailand also describes its wider natural circuit as being for lifetime-natural competitors. Information published for its 2026 natural events says the organisation uses in-house polygraph testing at check-in and official urine testing on competition day, with competitors violating the rules subject to disqualification.
This separates the natural circuit from open bodybuilding events and provides a competitive pathway specifically intended for athletes who meet its natural eligibility requirements.
Thailand Has a Dedicated Natural Competition Circuit
BKK Naturals 2 was not an isolated event.
PCA’s official 2026 international calendar lists several competitions in Thailand, including Naturals 2 in Bangkok on August 30, Naturals 3 in Phuket on September 26 and the Natural Championships in Phuket on September 27.
PCA Thailand says competitors must participate in an earlier Naturals Regional event to earn automatic qualification for its Natural Championships.
That structure means the Bangkok competition forms part of a wider pathway for natural athletes rather than simply being a one-day fitness show.
Silver Adds an International Chapter
Thapa’s reported silver-medal finish in Bangkok therefore represents another step in a career that had already produced results at home.
His earlier performances showed that he could reach the podium in Nepal. Thailand provided an opportunity to test that preparation outside the country while carrying Nepal’s name onto an international stage.
For an athlete who has promoted natural fitness, doing so at an event specifically built around natural competitors gives the achievement additional significance.
More Than a Competitive Athlete
Thapa’s public record also shows another side of his fitness career.
He is not only listed as a competitor but also as a certified personal trainer and Vice-President of NYFC. That combination places him within both the competitive and educational sides of Nepal’s fitness community.
For aspiring athletes, this makes his story broader than a single medal. It shows a progression involving education, training, organisational involvement, national competition and eventually international participation.
A Different Message for Aspiring Bodybuilders
Bodybuilding can sometimes be associated with pressure to achieve dramatic physical changes quickly. Thapa’s international appearance gives him an opportunity to promote a different route.
His message is that competitive ambition does not necessarily have to come at the expense of a commitment to natural training.
That message becomes more powerful when supported by competitive results: a domestic category victory, another national-level silver and now a reported international silver medal.
From Certified Trainer to Thailand Podium
The publicly documented stages of Thapa’s journey now paint a clearer picture:
2021: Listed among the first batch of Certified Personal Trainers from the Nepali Youth Fitness Academy.
NYFC: Became Vice-President of Nepal Youth Fitness & Calisthenics.
Mr Kathmandu: Won the Men’s Sports Physique over-170 cm category at the fifth Mr Kathmandu competition.
March 2025: Finished second in Men’s Sports Physique under 170 cm at the 17th Dharmashree competition.
August 30, 2026: Competed at PCA BKK Naturals 2 in Bangkok, where information provided about his performance records him as winning silver in Men’s Physique.
The timeline shows that his Thailand appearance did not happen overnight. It came after years of involvement in Nepal’s fitness community and repeated appearances on competitive physique stages.
A Nepali Flag on a Natural Bodybuilding Stage
Nepal’s international sporting stories are usually dominated by cricket, football, martial arts and other mainstream disciplines. Competitive physique sport receives considerably less public attention, despite Nepali athletes regularly investing years in training and preparation.
Thapa’s achievement offers an opportunity to bring one part of that community into wider view.
His journey from fitness education and domestic competitions to a natural bodybuilding stage in Thailand demonstrates that Nepali athletes are looking for opportunities across an increasingly diverse range of international sports.
A Silver Medal With a Message Beyond the Podium
For Thapa, the Thailand silver represents another competitive achievement. For young people following his journey, however, it can represent something larger.
From becoming a certified trainer and helping lead a youth fitness organisation to winning at Mr Kathmandu, finishing runner-up at Dharmashree and eventually representing Nepal in Thailand, his documented journey reflects years of gradual progress.
The medal therefore tells more than the story of one competition.
It carries the message Thapa has sought to promote through his fitness career: natural athletes can train seriously, compete ambitiously, and still aim for recognition beyond Nepal’s borders.
