Rodri Wins 2026 FIFA World Cup Golden Ball After Leading Spain To Second World Title

Spanish captain Rodri has won the Golden Ball as the best player of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after guiding his country to victory in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The Manchester City midfielder received the award following Spain’s 1–0 extra time win over defending champions Argentina in the final on July 19, 2026. Ferran Torres scored the winning goal in the 106th minute at New York New Jersey Stadium.

Rodri Named World Cup’s Best Player

The Golden Ball is awarded to the player judged to have delivered the best overall performances during the World Cup.

Rodri was a central figure in Spain’s campaign. He controlled the midfield, helped protect the defence and played an important leadership role as captain.

His passing and ability to control the speed of matches helped Spain remain composed throughout the tournament. He also became the first Manchester City player to captain a country to a men’s World Cup title.

Spain Defeat Argentina In Final

Spain secured the trophy with a narrow 1–0 victory over Argentina after the match remained goalless during the regular 90 minutes.

Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez made several important saves to keep his team in the match, but Spain continued creating chances.

The breakthrough came in the second half of extra time when Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal. His strike ended Argentina’s attempt to defend the title they won in Qatar in 2022.
