25 year old inmate escaped around 1 AM
A 25-year-old woman serving a life sentence escaped from Sundhara prison in Kathmandu late Friday night. The escaped inmate has been identified as Sapana Tamang from Bidur Municipality of Nuwakot. According to prison administrator Krishna Chapagain, she escaped around 1 AM after reportedly placing some objects on the ground and climbing over the prison wall.

Sapana Tamang was serving a life sentence in cases related to theft and murder. Reports state that she had also escaped earlier during the Gen Z movement protests but was arrested again after two months. Following the latest incident, prison authorities and police have started an internal investigation into how the escape happened and possible security weaknesses inside the prison.
The security of Sundhara prison falls under the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, Ranipokhari. Police have intensified the search operation while questions are being raised over prison monitoring and management after another major escape incident.
