Chaudhary, who is a general convention representative from Nawalparasi Constituency No. 1, has reportedly informed people close to him about his plan to seek the position.
Chaudhary Yet to Make Candidacy Official
Chaudhary has not formally announced his candidacy yet. Speaking to Setopati, he said he was heading to the Central Committee meeting at Khulamanch and would make his position on the candidacy public afterward.
The Nepali Congress has proposed a structure with one senior vice president and four vice presidents.
Selected From Madhesi Cluster
Chaudhary was unanimously selected as a general convention representative from the Madhesi cluster.
He had also contested the parliamentary election from Nawalparasi Constituency No. 1 in the last election held in February but was defeated by the Rastriya Swatantra Party candidate.
Chaudhary's Political Background
Chaudhary became a Nepali Congress Central Committee member at the party's special general convention held in December last year.
He was elected to the House of Representatives from the same constituency in the 2022 general election.
He had previously been elected as a proportional representation lawmaker in 2008 and 2017.
Chaudhary was also elected to the Nepali Congress Central Committee during the party's 14th General Convention, held from November 24 to 28, 2021.
If he formally enters the race, his candidacy will add another contender to the contest for the party's vice president positions at the upcoming general convention.
