Constitution Amendment Task Force Holds Talks With Prachanda, Madhav Nepal And Jhalanath Khanal
Asim Shah-led constitution amendment task force met former PMs Prachanda, Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhalanath Khanal in Lalitpur to collect suggestions for a discussion paper.

The constitution amendment task force led by Prime Minister Balen Shah’s political adviser Asim Shah has held discussions with three former prime ministers as part of its ongoing suggestion collection process.
The task force, which has been formed to prepare a “constitution amendment discussion paper,” met former prime ministers Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda,” Madhav Kumar Nepal, and Jhalanath Khanal on Thursday. The meeting took place at Prachanda’s residence in Manbhawan, Lalitpur.

According to the available details, coordinator Asim Shah and other members of the task force reached Prachanda’s residence to collect suggestions on possible constitutional amendments. Former prime ministers Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhalanath Khanal were also present during the meeting, where the discussion was held jointly.
The meeting is seen as part of the task force’s wider political consultation process. The team is collecting views from senior political leaders before preparing its discussion paper on constitutional amendment.
Constitution amendment remains an important political topic in Nepal, as different political parties and leaders have raised separate concerns about governance, federalism, electoral systems, inclusion, and the overall implementation of the Constitution. Any formal amendment process would require broad political understanding and support in Parliament.

The discussion with three former prime ministers shows that the task force is trying to include senior leaders in the early stage of consultation. Since all three leaders have played major roles in Nepal’s political transition and constitution-related debates, their suggestions may carry political weight in the coming process.
The task force is expected to continue discussions with more political leaders and stakeholders in the coming days. After collecting suggestions, it will prepare a discussion paper that may help guide future debate on possible constitutional changes.
For now, the consultation process is still at the discussion-paper stage. No final amendment proposal has been officially presented yet.
