Why Is Nepal Expanding Drone Surveillance Across Madhesh And Koshi? Inside The Government’s Security Response

Nepal’s Home Ministry has strengthened security arrangements in several districts of Madhesh and Koshi provincesfollowing violence that first broke out in Sunsari and later created tension in parts of Madhesh. The latest response includes expanded drone monitoring in sensitive areas, closer coordination among security bodies and stricter observation of online and ground-level activities.

Why The Government Acted

The main aim is to prevent isolated incidents from growing into wider communal or social conflict. Officials are particularly concerned about rumours, provocative posts, religiously sensitive messaging and organised attempts to disturb public order.

How Security Agencies Are Responding

Security personnel have increased aerial and ground surveillance in locations identified as vulnerable. Drones are being used to track gatherings, unusual movement and possible flashpoints, while local administrations remain in close contact with police and other security agencies.

Since Shrawan 10, three people have died after suffering gunshot injuries linked to the unrest. Two deaths were reported in Sunsari, while another person died in Siraha, adding urgency to the government’s security response.

Authorities have asked people to stay calm, avoid unverified information and not react to provocative content. Citizens have also been urged to support peace, respect religious and social differences and cooperate with security officials working to prevent further violence.
