Ganesh Nepali Passes Away During Treatment At Bir Hospital After Self-Immolation Attempt
Ganesh Nepali, who was undergoing treatment at Bir Hospital after suffering severe burn injuries in a self-immolation attempt, has died. The Home Ministry has called an emergency discussion, and Home Minister Sudan Gurung is preparing to visit the hospital.

Ganesh Nepali, a 25-year-old man from Soru Rural Municipality-1 in Mugu, died during treatment at Bir Hospital on Friday after suffering severe burn injuries in a self-immolation attempt, while the Home Ministry called an emergency discussion and Home Minister Sudan Gurung prepared to visit the hospital.
Condition Worsened During Treatment
According to Kathmandu District Police Range SSP Dilip Ghimire, Nepali died after his health condition worsened while he was receiving intensive treatment at the hospital.
Nepali had suffered burns on around 55 percent of his body. Doctors involved in his treatment said his face and respiratory tract were also seriously damaged, making his condition highly critical.
Treated In Burn ICU
He had been kept on a ventilator in the Burn ICU Ward of Bir Hospital. Earlier, the hospital had said during a press briefing that his condition was extremely unstable and that complications could arise at any time.
Bir Hospital had mobilized a 21-member special medical team led by Dr. Piyush Dahal, coordinator of the Plastic Surgery Department, for Nepali’s treatment. The team included unit chief Dr. Apar Lamichhane, critical care doctor Nirman Gyawali, anesthetist Jay Prakash Thakur, Prof. Dr. Raviram Shrestha and nursing staff.
India Transfer Was Considered
As Nepali’s condition became more critical, preparations had also been made to take him to New Delhi, India, for further treatment. However, hospital officials said he could not be transferred because his health condition was not stable enough for travel.
Home Ministry Holds Emergency Discussion
Following Nepali’s death, the Home Ministry called an emergency discussion. A ministry source said officials had received news of his death and were holding discussions with the minister.
“The news of his death has come. We are in discussion with the minister. The minister himself is expected to go to the hospital,” a ministry source said.
Home Minister Preparing To Visit Hospital
The secretariat of Home Minister Sudan Gurung also said the minister was preparing to reach Bir Hospital shortly after the news.
Nepali’s death has drawn public attention to his case and broader concerns related to citizen grievances, public service management and the government’s response to emergency situations. Further details from the hospital and the Home Ministry are awaited.
