Nepal and Germany have agreed to further strengthen their development partnership, with Germany pledging 37.6 million euros in technical and financial assistance for projects scheduled to be implemented during 2026 and 2027.

The commitment was announced during the latest Nepal–Germany Development Cooperation Negotiations held in Kathmandu, where representatives from both governments reviewed existing cooperation and identified priority areas for future collaboration.

The funding package will support programs related to energy development, sustainable economic growth, and health services, which have been selected as key areas of cooperation for the next two years.

Officials from both countries also discussed expanding support for renewable energy, energy efficiency, agricultural resilience, infrastructure quality improvement, access to finance, revenue sector modernization, and gender equality initiatives.

Nepal's delegation was led by Dr. Dhani Ram Sharma, head of the International Economic Relations Division under the Ministry of Finance, while the German side was headed by Barbara Schäfer, who oversees South Asia affairs at Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.

German representatives reaffirmed their country's continued support for international development goals and emphasized their commitment to maintaining a strong partnership with Nepal. The assistance package includes both new projects and ongoing programs being implemented through German development institutions and cooperation agencies.

The two sides also reviewed cooperation delivered through international organizations and multilateral development mechanisms, including support provided through various United Nations agencies and global health programs.

During the discussions, both governments highlighted the importance of cooperation between civil society organizations from Nepal and Germany. Participants noted that active civic engagement, strong institutions, and sustainable development efforts remain closely linked.

German Ambassador Udo Volz emphasized the importance of human rights, the rule of law, and an active civil society in supporting long-term development objectives.

The next round of bilateral development cooperation negotiations is expected to take place in Germany in 2028, as both countries continue working together on economic development, climate-related initiatives, health sector improvement, and broader sustainable development goals.
