Kathmandu, October 6, 2026: Home Minister Sudhan Gurung has warned that officials and employees working under the Ministry of Home Affairs and its agencies will face action if they leak sensitive state information to unauthorized individuals or organizations.
In a statement shared on social media on Tuesday, Gurung said the practice of leaking information by officials who misuse their positions has been seen within the ministry and its subordinate agencies.
He stressed that sensitive state information is not the personal property of officials but part of their public responsibility.
‘Access Does Not Mean Permission to Misuse Information’
Gurung said holding a government position gives officials access to information but does not give them the right to misuse or disclose it.
According to the minister, even small pieces of information, intelligence or confidential leads can play an important role in preventing crime, advancing investigations and establishing the facts surrounding serious incidents.
He warned that anyone who deliberately violates the confidentiality entrusted to them by the state or disregards their official responsibilities will be held accountable under the law.
No Immunity for Information Leaks
The Home Minister said there would be no exemption or immunity for officials who deliberately leak sensitive information, regardless of the justification they provide.
He also said officials must maintain professional conduct and respect the responsibilities associated with their positions.
Internal Monitoring to Be Strengthened
The Home Ministry has said it will strengthen internal monitoring mechanisms to ensure better protection of sensitive information and stricter compliance with official conduct requirements.
The move comes as the government faces growing attention over the handling and disclosure of sensitive information within security and law-enforcement agencies.
AIG Banshiraj Dahal Suspended
The warning comes a day after the ministry suspended Armed Police Force AIG Banshiraj Dahal over allegations related to the leakage of sensitive information.
The ministry suspended Dahal from his position on Monday as part of action over the alleged information leak.
Further details about the alleged leak and the investigation have not been publicly disclosed.
