After more than 13 years in makeup artistry, working backstage as a makeup artist at Paris Fashion Week marks another milestone in a professional journey that has taken her from Nepal to Mumbai, Dubai, Milan, and New York.

A CREATIVE JOURNEY THAT BEGAN IN NEPAL

Tamang’s connection with beauty grew from her early interest in art. She began her makeup journey more than 13 years ago, gradually turning her creative instincts into a profession. Her background in fine arts helped shape her approach to makeup, while the colours and landscapes of the Himalayas later inspired her business identity.

Born in Solukhumbu, Tamang developed an early interest in fashion, beauty, and creative expression. Makeup became the craft through which she could bring these interests together while building a career of her own.

BUILDING A CAREER ACROSS BORDERS

Mumbai became an important turning point in Tamang’s career. In an interview, she recalled arriving without industry connections and facing rejection before a photographer helped her build her portfolio. That support eventually led to agency work and opened doors to further opportunities.

Her career later took her to Dubai, Milan, and New York, where she worked with magazines, models, and international beauty brands. Working across different markets exposed her to diverse creative environments and helped strengthen both her technical skills and professional confidence.

The Paris milestone follows years of adapting to new markets, taking professional risks, and continually developing her craft.

AN ENTREPRENEUR WHO KEPT CREATING

Alongside her career as a makeup artist, Tamang founded Pastel Beauty in 2021.

In April 2025, she introduced Bisou by Pastel Beauty, a sister brand created with younger Nepali consumers in mind, with affordability as one of its key considerations.

The business grew naturally from her experience in the beauty industry. Through teaching makeup, Tamang became increasingly aware of the challenges young customers faced when trying to balance quality and price. Creating beauty products became another way for her to apply her professional experience while remaining connected to the needs of her market.

FROM NEPAL TO THE PARIS RUNWAY

Lemi Tamang recently added another significant chapter to her international career by working backstage as a makeup artist during Paris Fashion Week’s Spring/Summer 2027 season, which took place from 28 September to 6 October 2026. The event brought together designers, models, stylists, makeup artists, hairstylists, photographers, and other creative professionals from across the global fashion industry.
