MP Sumnima Udas Warns FATF Grey List Status May Hurt Remittance, Investment, and Tourism In Nepal
MP Sumnima Udas Says Global Trust In Economy Depends On Financial Credibility Warns FATF Grey List Status May Hurt Remittance, Investment, and Tourism In Nepal And Calls For Strong Action Against Informal Economy And Regulatory Weakness

MP Sumnima Udas has said that today’s global economy runs on trust, and being placed on the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey or black list raises serious questions about the financial credibility of Nepal. She warned that such a situation can directly affect the daily lives of citizens, especially by making foreign remittance transfers more difficult and expensive.
She further stated that foreign investment could decrease significantly, and the tourism sector may also be negatively impacted. According to her, the world has already started viewing Nepal as a high-risk destination, which can create long-term challenges for economic growth and stability.
MP Udas also suggested the need for a transparent and simple public discussion on the risks of FATF grey listing. She called for strong coordinated national action against hundi practices, the informal economy, and regulatory weaknesses, saying this is necessary for a secure economic future for Nepal.
