Nepal Army Chief Ashok Raj Sigdel Presents New Rank Insignia to Two Major Generals and Four Colonels

Kathmandu, August 24, 2026: Chief of Army Staff General Ashok Raj Sigdel presented new rank insignia to six recently promoted Nepal Army officers during a special ceremony at Army Headquarters in Kathmandu on Monday. The ceremony formally marked the officers’ promotion to higher ranks within the Nepal Army.

Two officers, Drabya Ram Bhandari and Ranjit Thapa, were promoted to the rank of Major General and received their new insignia from General Sigdel. During the same ceremony, four Lieutenant Colonels who had been promoted to Colonel also received their rank insignia. The event was held at Jungi Adda, the Nepal Army headquarters, according to the Army’s Directorate of Public Relations and Information.

The presentation of rank insignia is an important military tradition that formally recognizes an officer’s promotion and new responsibilities. Higher-ranking officers take on greater command, leadership and administrative duties within the organization. The Nepal Army regularly holds such ceremonies following senior-level promotions.

General Ashok Raj Sigdel has been serving as the Chief of Army Staff of the Nepal Army since September 2024. The latest promotions come as part of the Army’s regular career and leadership structure, with experienced officers moving into higher positions of responsibility.
