Street Light Installation Begins Along Koteshwor-Kalanki Ring Road Section
Installation of street lights has begun along the Koteshwor–Kalanki section of Kathmandu's Ring Road, addressing a long-standing lack of adequate nighttime lighting. Authorities expect the project to improve road safety, support smoother traffic movement, and enhance security for both drivers and pedestrians.

Work has started to install street lights along the Koteshwor–Kalanki stretch of Kathmandu's Ring Road, one of the busiest transportation corridors in the Valley.
The project aims to address a long-standing issue that persisted even after the road was expanded into an eight-lane corridor. For years, insufficient lighting along the route created visibility challenges for motorists and pedestrians traveling after dark.
The lack of proper illumination had raised concerns about road safety, particularly during nighttime hours when traffic movement remains high. Poorly lit sections were also viewed as a potential security concern for people commuting late in the evening.
With installation work now underway, authorities expect the road environment to become safer and more convenient for daily users. Improved visibility is expected to help drivers navigate the route more effectively while making pedestrian movement safer.
Officials also believe the addition of modern street lighting could contribute to better traffic regulation and reduce the likelihood of accidents caused by low visibility.
Once completed, the lighting system is expected to become an important addition to the Ring Road's infrastructure, supporting safer travel conditions while improving the overall appearance of one of Kathmandu's key urban road networks.
