The District Administration Office (DAO), Dhanusha, led by Chief District Officer Prem Prasad Luintel, has imposed a curfew in the urban areas of Janakpur Sub-Metropolitan City beginning 3:30 PM on Thursday after tensions between two communities escalated. Similar restrictions have also been enforced in areas surrounding Golbazar in Siraha, with local authorities stating the decision was taken to prevent possible violence, maintain public order and protect lives and property following a security assessment by the District Security Committee.

Why Authorities Imposed The Curfew

Officials said intelligence assessments and the evolving security situation indicated a growing risk of protests, clashes and public disorder if immediate preventive measures were not introduced. The curfew is intended to stop large gatherings, reduce the possibility of confrontation and allow security agencies to stabilise the situation before tensions worsen.

Security Agencies On High Alert

Following the order, Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force and other security personnel have been deployed in sensitive locations to enforce the restrictions and monitor the situation. Authorities have urged residents to avoid spreading rumours, follow official instructions and refrain from any activities that could inflame communal tensions.

Part Of A Wider Security Response

The latest restrictions come as security agencies across Nepal remain on heightened alert after recent communal violence in Sunsari prompted curfews, heavy security deployment and appeals for peace from political leaders and local administrations. Officials say preventive measures are being taken in several districts to stop unrest from spreading and to preserve communal harmony.

What Happens Next

The duration of the curfew will depend on regular security reviews by district authorities. Residents are expected to comply with the restrictions until officials determine that the security situation has improved enough for normal movement and public activities to resume.
