Facebook's browser version experienced a widespread technical outage on Sunday afternoon, leaving thousands of users unable to access the platform through their web browsers.

Users attempting to log in or open Facebook on desktop were greeted with an error message stating that their accounts were temporarily unavailable due to a site issue.

Users See "Account Temporarily Unavailable" Message

Instead of their usual Facebook homepage, affected users received the following notification:

"Account Temporarily Unavailable. Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue. We expect this issue to be resolved shortly. Please try again in a few minutes."

The message suggests the disruption is caused by a technical issue on Facebook's side rather than a problem with individual user accounts.

Reports Spike On Downdetector

Reports of Facebook being down increased sharply around 1:30 PM on Sunday, according to outage tracking website Downdetector.

Thousands of users reported problems, with the majority saying they were unable to access Facebook through a web browser or log into their accounts.

Mobile App Appears Less Affected

While the browser version experienced widespread issues, some users reported that Facebook's mobile application continued to function normally.

However, the extent of the disruption may vary depending on the user's location and device.

Meta Yet To Issue Official Statement

As of publication, Meta, Facebook's parent company, has not released an official statement explaining the cause of the outage or when the service will be fully restored.

Users are advised to wait and try accessing the platform again after a few minutes while the issue is being resolved.
