Government Seals Jorpati Dairy After Chemicals And Suspicious Fat-Like Substance Found In Milk Processing Unit

The Department of Food Technology and Quality Control has sealed Jorpati Dairy Producers Cooperative Limited, located in Suryabinayak Municipality-9, Bhaktapur, after officials discovered chemicals and suspicious fat-like substances during an inspection of the milk processing facility.

According to the department, the action was taken after a joint monitoring team found unusual chemicals and substances suspected to have been used during milk processing operations.

During the inspection conducted on Baisakh 31, officials discovered around 9.86 kilograms of maltodextrin and 56 kilograms of dextrose monohydrate inside the processing room. The monitoring team also found around 30 kilograms of a suspicious fat-like substance resembling bakery shortening prepared for melting inside a batch pasteurizer tank.

Authorities immediately collected four samples for laboratory testing, including three milk samples from cooling vats filled with milk and one sample from the suspicious fat-like substance.

The department has sealed all three milk-filled chilling vats along with the suspicious substance until further notice. Dairy operators have also been instructed to appear before the department within three days as part of the ongoing investigation.

The inspection was carried out jointly by the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control, its Kathmandu Division Office, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Jagati Police Circle.

Officials say monitoring of milk and dairy products has been intensified in recent months following growing public complaints about adulteration and the mixing of inedible substances in dairy products sold in the market.
