The Nepal government has announced six major Cabinet decisions, including the removal of education and health equity fees, incentives for international airlines, appointments to key judicial posts, and a judicial probe into the Ganesh Nepali self-immolation case.

The Government of Nepal has announced six major decisions made during Wednesday's Cabinet meeting, covering judicial appointments, aviation incentives, consumer relief measures and an investigation into the Ganesh Nepali self-immolation case.
Government spokesperson and Minister for Education Sasmit Pokharel said the Cabinet formally approved the decisions following its latest meeting.
Education And Health Equity Fees Removed
In a major relief for the public, the Cabinet has decided to fully remove the Education Equity Fee and Health Equity Fee.
Following the Cabinet's approval, schools, colleges, hospitals and other healthcare institutions will no longer be allowed to collect these charges from students or patients.
The government said the decision was made to reduce the financial burden on citizens.
Incentives Announced For Pokhara And Gautam Buddha Airports
To encourage more international flights, the Cabinet approved a package of incentives for airlines operating from Pokhara International Airport and Gautam Buddha International Airport.
The incentives, which will remain in effect until mid-September 2028 (Bhadra-end 2085), include:
100% waiver on parking fees
100% waiver on landing fees
100% waiver on air navigation charges
50% discount on ground handling charges
The government hopes the concessions will help increase regular international flights from both airports.
Key Judicial Appointments Approved
The Cabinet also approved appointments to two important judicial positions.
The decisions include:
Basudev Acharya, Judge of the High Court Tulsipur, appointed as Chief Judge of the Special Court
Dipendra Adhikari, Judge of the High Court Surkhet, appointed as Chairperson of the Labour Court
In addition, Shailendra Raj Kunwar has been appointed as the new Administrator of the Guthi Sansthan.
Meter Interest Victims' Agreement Endorsed
The government has endorsed the previous agreement reached with victims of illegal high-interest lending, commonly known as the meter interest issue.
Following the Cabinet's decision:
All fraudulent debt documents (Tamsuk) related to meter interest cases have been declared invalid from Wednesday.
The government says it will continue implementing the agreement reached with the victims despite complaints from some lenders.
Judicial Committee Formed To Probe Ganesh Nepali Case
The Cabinet has formed a judicial investigation committee to examine the self-immolation case involving Ganesh Nepali.
The committee will be chaired by former High Court judge Keshav Prasad Bastola and will investigate the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident before submitting its findings.
