Nepal elected unanimously at WHO assembly

Nepal has been unanimously elected as the Vice President of the 79th World Health Assembly of the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland. The election took place during the opening session of the global assembly on Monday, according to the Ministry of Health and Population.

The World Health Assembly is the main decision making body of the WHO and brings together health leaders and representatives from countries around the world. Nepal’s Health and Population Minister Nisha Mehata is attending the assembly and is scheduled to address the gathering on behalf of Nepal later today.

A Nepali delegation led by Minister Mehata left for Geneva on Sunday to participate in the six day global health event, which is being held from May 18 to May 23. Nepal’s election as Vice President is being seen as an important achievement for the country in the international health sector.
