Nepali QR Payment Service Officially Launches In Sri Lanka, Allowing Nepali Travelers To Make Direct Digital Payments At More Than LankaQR Merchant Stores

Nepal and Sri Lanka have officially launched a cross-border QR payment service to make digital transactions easier and safer for travelers and businesses. The service was introduced through cooperation between Nepal Clearing House Limited (NCHL) and Sri Lanka’s LankaPay during a special event held in Colombo.
With this new system, Nepali tourists visiting Sri Lanka can now directly scan and pay at more than 400,000 LankaQR merchant stores using Nepali mobile banking apps or Connect IPS. In the initial phase, Laxmi Sunrise Bank has started service as the issuer bank, allowing users to link their dollar cards or devices with Connect IPS for real-time payments. Plans are also in place to expand the service to other banking apps in the future.
Officials believe this initiative will strengthen the long-standing historical, cultural, and religious ties between Nepal and Sri Lanka through technology. The system is also expected to make travel and business transactions more secure, reduce the need to carry cash, and create new opportunities for small and medium businesses to reach international customers.
