KATHMANDU, July 17 — The Nepal Teachers’ Federation has demanded the immediate removal of the promotional song “Math Sikne Bhaye...” from the upcoming Nepali film Masterni, saying the song uses objectionable words and visuals that disrespect female teachers and damage the dignity of the teaching profession.

Federation Objects To Song Content

The federation issued a statement on Friday, urging the film team to stop the song immediately and not include it in the movie.

According to the federation, the song presents female teachers inappropriately and disrespectfully. It said the lyrics and presentation hurt the social dignity of teachers and also undermine the respect attached to the mathematics profession.

Warning To Film Team

The statement was issued jointly by federation chairperson Lakshmikishor Subedi and general secretary Tulabahadur Thapa.

The federation warned that if the song continues to be promoted or used in the film, the producers and artists involved would be responsible for any uncomfortable situation that may arise from it.

Film Set For Bhadra Release

Masterni is scheduled to be released on Bhadra 5. The disputed song was released earlier this week on Asar 30 (July 14, 2026) as part of the film’s promotional campaign.

After the song came out, it drew mixed reactions from the public. Many people on social media criticized the song for carrying double-meaning words and for presenting teachers in a disrespectful manner.

Producer Says It Is Entertainment

Priyanka Karki, who is both the producer and one of the actors in the film, has reportedly requested audiences to take the song only as entertainment.

The song has lyrics, music, and vocals by Durgesh Thapa. Babina Kiranti has also sung a duet with him.

The music video features Priyanka Karki and Durgesh Thapa, along with Aryan Sigdel and Ayushman Joshi.

Debate Over Entertainment And Professional Dignity

The controversy has opened a wider debate over how professions, especially teaching, are represented in films and promotional content.

While film teams often defend such songs as entertainment, teachers’ groups argue that creative freedom should not come at the cost of insulting an entire profession or encouraging disrespect toward educators.
