Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s government has completed six months in office, after beginning its term with a 100-point governance reform agenda covering administration, corruption control, public services, laws and the economy. At its first 100-day review, the government claimed 87.2% overall progress and said 70 of the 100 agenda items had been implemented, but six months into the term, several promised legal and institutional reforms remain unfinished.
Nepal and India have agreed to expand cross-border electricity trade capacity, allowing Nepal to import up to 1,530 MW and export up to 1,850 MW through key transmission lines.
Nepal will continue exporting only 40 MW of electricity to Bangladesh after India declined to approve an additional 20 MW due to transmission line capacity limitations. The proposed increase to 60 MW will require further discussions and approvals from Nepal, India, and Bangladesh before it can move forward.
