22 Months After Armed Police Officer’s Murder, Arrest Of Main Accused Revives Family’s Hope For Justice
The arrest of the main accused in the killing of Armed Police Force Sub-Inspector Laxman Prasad Yadav after 22 months has revived hope among his family members, who had lost faith in receiving justice. SIRAHA: After waiting for nearly 22 months, the family of Armed Police Force Sub-Inspector Laxman Prasad Yadav says their hope for justice has returned following the arrest of the main accused in his murder case.
Yadav was killed while attempting to stop suspected alcohol smugglers near the Nepal-India border in Siraha. His family members said they had almost lost hope that those responsible would ever be brought before the law.
Family Says Lost Hope Has Returned
Panday Yadav, the elder brother of the deceased officer, said the long delay had made the family uncertain about whether the accused would ever be arrested.
“Our hope had almost ended. After the main accused was arrested, we believe justice may finally come,” he said.
He also demanded that all individuals involved in the incident be brought under legal investigation.
Ranjit Yadav, the brother-in-law of Laxman Prasad Yadav, said the arrest restored confidence that the state would provide justice.
He said that when a security officer loses his life while protecting citizens, failure to deliver justice affects public trust.
How The Incident Happened
The incident occurred on Mangsir 16, 2081, when the Armed Police Force received information about alcohol smuggling from India into Nepal.
At around 3:00 AM, a security team from Badhari Border Outpost (BOP), Bariyarpatti was deployed near the Nepal-India border area of Kachnari, Bariyarpatti Rural Municipality-1.
The team, led by Sub-Inspector Laxman Prasad Yadav, attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle.
According to the Armed Police Force, the vehicle allegedly hit Yadav while attempting to escape.
The officer suffered serious injuries and later died during treatment.
Main Accused Arrested After 22 Months
Police have arrested 37-year-old Mohammad Kurwan Mansuri of Ghodmohana village in Madhubani district, Bihar, India, identifying him as the main accused in the case.
According to police, Mansuri was the owner of the vehicle allegedly used during the incident.
He was arrested from the Nepal-India border area of Bariyarpatti Rural Municipality-1, Kachnari.
Police said three people were arrested during the operation.
Accused Attempted To Escape, Police Say
According to the District Police Office, Siraha, the suspects attempted to flee when police tried to arrest them.
Police said one round of firearm was fired at security personnel by the suspects during the incident.
Police responded by firing three rounds before taking them into custody.
Mansuri suffered injuries to his left elbow and right knee and is receiving treatment at the Provincial Hospital, Siraha.
Police Promise Further Investigation
After the arrest, a team including Siraha Police Chief SP Basudev Pathak and Armed Police Force SP Suman Jung Thapa visited the family of Laxman Prasad Yadav.
Police officials assured the family that remaining suspects would also be brought under legal action.
SP Pathak said police remain committed to investigating the case and ensuring that all individuals involved face legal proceedings.
Police said one more suspect is still absconding and efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest him.
Justice Process Continues
The arrest of the main accused marks a major development in the case, but the legal process will continue as authorities investigate the involvement of other suspects.
For the family of Laxman Prasad Yadav, the arrest has brought renewed hope after nearly two years of waiting.
