NEPALGUNJ: Two 16-year-old girls from Bardiya were rescued in Banke after they were allegedly being taken to India with promises of employment, according to the Armed Police Force.
The girls were stopped on Wednesday evening near the Suiya border point in Narainapur Rural Municipality-1 of Banke. Two men, including an Indian national, were also detained in connection with the incident.
Girls Stopped Near Suiya Border
A seven-member Armed Police Force team led by Inspector Jhakku Prasad Sharma stopped an auto-rickshaw travelling from Nepalgunj towards India at around 7:50 pm.
The team, deployed from the No. 30 Bagheswari Battalion in Banke, had received information about the suspected movement of the girls towards the Indian border.
The two girls were from:
Barbardiya Municipality-2, Bardiya
Thakurbaba Municipality-8, Bardiya
Officials said the girls were allegedly being taken across the border after being offered jobs.
Initial Story Raised Suspicion
According to the preliminary investigation, the girls had initially been instructed to say that they were travelling to their maternal uncle's home in Chaudhary village in Shravasti district, India.
However, their behaviour and answers reportedly raised suspicions among the security personnel.
Inspector Sharma questioned the girls further, after which the preliminary investigation indicated that they had allegedly been lured with promises of employment and were being taken to India.
Two Men Detained
The Armed Police Force detained two men who were allegedly involved in taking the girls towards the border.
They were identified as:
Yar Mohammad Behna, 30, of Kalaphata, Narainapur Rural Municipality-3, Banke
Hanuman Prasad Mahant, 33, of Shravasti, Uttar Pradesh, India
The Indian national was allegedly involved in the attempt to take the girls across the border.
The authorities have continued the preliminary investigation into the incident.
Vehicles and Phones Seized
During the operation, the Armed Police Force said it seized:
An auto-rickshaw
An Indian motorcycle
Four mobile phones
The seized items are being kept as part of the investigation.
Investigation Underway
Superintendent Bhim Bahadur Chand, chief of the No. 30 Bagheswari Battalion, said the preliminary investigation indicated that the girls had been lured with promises of employment and were being taken towards India.
The case highlights the risks faced by young people travelling across the open Nepal-India border after being offered jobs without clear information about their destination or employment.
The girls were rescued before they were taken across the border, while the two detained men are being investigated over their alleged involvement.
