24 Bodies Found Inside Single House in Nuwakot as Search Continues After Bhote Koshi Floods

Search and rescue teams have recovered 24 bodies from a single house in Betrawati, Nuwakot, following the devastating floods that hit the region last week.

The bodies were discovered inside a flood affected building at Betrawati in Bidur Municipality 10. Police said search operations at the site are still continuing and the number of bodies found there could increase.

Superintendent of Police Bipin Regmi of the District Police Office, Nuwakot, confirmed that 24 bodies had been recovered from the building. Authorities are continuing to search the site to determine whether more victims remain inside.

Identity of Victims Yet to Be Confirmed

Authorities have not yet confirmed the identities of the victims recovered from the building.

Police are also working to establish who owns the house and why such a large number of people were inside when the disaster struck.

There have been reports suggesting that the building may have been used as a hotel or guest house. However, police have not officially confirmed this information.

The discovery has added another serious challenge to ongoing search and recovery operations in Nuwakot and other areas affected by the floods.

Flood Struck Region on August 26

The disaster began on August 26 after a major flood came through the Bhote Koshi river system in Rasuwa, causing widespread destruction downstream.

Floodwaters damaged homes, roads, bridges and other infrastructure across affected areas. Several settlements were left difficult to reach after road and bridge connections were damaged, creating major challenges for search, rescue and relief teams.

The disaster also affected communities around the Trishuli river corridor, including areas of Nuwakot.

According to figures cited in reports as of Monday, more than 900 bodies had been recovered across Nepal following the disaster, while thousands of people remained unaccounted for.

The final number of deaths has not yet been confirmed as search operations continue in several affected locations.

Security personnel and rescue teams are continuing operations in flood affected communities, searching damaged houses and areas covered by mud and debris.
