Adora Holding, a hotel in Jhamsikhel, Lalitpur Metropolitan City 3, was fined Rs. 2,50,000 on Wednesday after officials inspected the hotel following a WhatsApp complaint about a cockroach allegedly found in a potato dish. The inspection was carried out to check food hygiene, storage conditions, and possible risks to customers after the complaint reached the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control.
During the surprise visit, the joint inspection team found several problems related to food safety. Officials recovered three one-liter bottles of expired fruit syrup, around three kilograms of chow mein without labels, artificial food color, and nearly one liter of previously used oil with a TPM value of 33. The department also found that the hotel’s refrigerator was not being managed properly.
Following the inspection, the Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection fined Adora Holding under the Consumer Protection Act, 2075. The expired food items were taken for further examination, while the unsafe oil and unlabeled chow mein were destroyed by the authorities.
