Bhotekoshi Flood Rescue Enters 12th Day as Search Continues at Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project

The search and rescue operation following the devastating Bhotekoshi River flood in Rasuwa has entered its 12th day, with rescuers continuing their difficult work at the Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project. According to the Nepali Army, search operations are still underway around the project, where a large number of people have remained unaccounted for since the flood struck on August 26. The disaster caused widespread destruction across Rasuwa, damaging roads, bridges, settlements and several hydropower projects.

A team involving Nepali Army personnel and representatives from the hydropower project has reached the powerhouse and control point to continue the search. Access to the underground powerhouse remains difficult because of heavy mud, rocks and debris left by the flood. Rescue teams have also faced problems transporting heavy equipment to the site because road connections have been severely damaged. Despite these challenges, the search continues as families wait for news about their missing loved ones.

Rescue Efforts Continue Despite Difficult Conditions

The Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project has become one of the major locations in the ongoing flood rescue operation. Recent reports said 93 people connected to the project remained unaccounted for, while rescue teams continued searching the project camp, offices and underground areas. The difficult terrain and blocked access routes have made it hard for rescuers to bring excavators, pumps and generators directly to the site.

The search at Rasuwagadhi is part of a much larger rescue operation across flood-hit hydropower projects in Rasuwa and Nuwakot. The Nepali Army, Armed Police Force, Nepal Police and technical teams have been working together, with support from international rescue specialists in some locations. Recent successful rescues of workers from other hydropower tunnels have also given families renewed hope that people trapped in difficult underground areas may still be found alive.
