China to Continue Sharing Emergency Weather and Hydrological Information With Nepal

KATHMANDU, September 4, 2026: China will continue sharing emergency weather and hydrological monitoring information with Nepal to support rescue and disaster relief operations following the severe disaster along the China-Nepal border.

The information will include updates on river barriers and potential risks from glacial lakes, according to information provided by the Chinese Embassy.

China Has Been Providing Weather Support

Chinese meteorological authorities have been providing Nepal with weather monitoring, forecasting, early warning and impact-related services since a severe mudslide struck the Gyirong-Rasuwa border area.

The support is aimed at helping Nepal monitor changing weather and hydrological conditions and assess potential risks to affected and downstream communities.

Weather Consultations Held After Disaster

According to a spokesperson for the China Meteorological Administration, Chinese authorities held video weather consultations with Nepal's Department of Hydrology and Meteorology immediately after the disaster.

China has also been providing meteorological support for Nepal's ongoing rescue and relief operations.

The continued communication is expected to provide Nepalese authorities with additional information as they monitor weather and water conditions in areas affected by the disaster.

River Blockages and Glacial Lakes Among Key Risks
