Harka Sampang Proposes NPR 1 Kharab Budget for Nepal Border Fencing, Calls Border Security a National Priority
Shram Sanskriti Party Chair Harka Sampang has proposed NPR 1 kharab for Nepal border fencing, saying border security should be a national priority.

Shram Sanskriti Party Chair Harka Sampang has proposed allocating NPR 1 kharab to build fencing along Nepal’s border, saying border security should be treated as one of the country’s top national priorities. Speaking at the Parliament building premises in Kathmandu, Sampang argued that Nepal needs stronger border protection and better security management in border areas.
According to Sampang, the government should focus more seriously on securing Nepal’s borders. He said that people hire watchmen and install CCTV cameras even for small shops, homes and businesses, but the country continues to maintain open borders without enough physical protection. He used this comparison to say that a country’s border should be guarded with even greater care.
Sampang suggested that the government should direct a major budget toward fencing border areas and deploying security forces where needed. His proposal has come at a time when border security, land protection and national sovereignty remain sensitive political topics in Nepal. Border-related concerns are often raised in Parliament, public debates and political speeches.
He also said that his party has not stepped back from its position despite parliamentary proceedings resuming. Sampang repeated that the Prime Minister should answer questions in Parliament, showing that his party still wants clear responses from the government on key national issues.
The proposal to allocate NPR 1 kharab for border fencing is likely to create debate among political leaders, policy experts and the public. Supporters may see it as a strong step toward national security, while critics may question the cost, practicality and impact on people living near open border areas.
Nepal shares long and sensitive borders with its neighboring countries, making border management an important issue for the government. Issues such as illegal movement, land encroachment, smuggling and security concerns are often discussed in relation to border policy. Sampang’s latest statement has now brought the issue of border fencing back into political focus.
For now, the proposal remains a political demand rather than an approved government plan. However, it has added fresh pressure on the government to explain how it plans to handle border security, border-area development and national protection in the coming days.
