Sudhan Gurung Warns MP Khagendra Sunar

Kathmandu, August 14, 2026: Home Minister Sudhan Gurung has expressed dissatisfaction over the way Nepal Police Chief Dan Bahadur Karki was treated during a meeting of the House of Representatives’ Public Accounts Committee.

Speaking at the Parliamentary Law Committee on Friday, Gurung said allegations and complaints alone should not be used to determine someone’s guilt or justify action against them.

He said the Home Ministry was not satisfied with the manner in which the police chief was treated during the committee discussion.

‘We Cannot Be Judges’

Gurung stressed that officials should not act as judges simply on the basis of accusations.

He argued that allegations need to be investigated through the proper legal process before conclusions are reached or action is taken against an individual.

His remarks came after a heated discussion in the Public Accounts Committee over alleged irregularities in the procurement of uniforms and other materials for Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and election police.

MP Sunar Demanded Immediate Action

During Wednesday’s committee meeting, Rastriya Swatantra Party MP Khagendra Sunar called for an immediate investigation into the police chief and other officials over the allegations.

Sunar argued that those responsible should be suspended and removed from their positions while the investigation is carried out.

He also said that if the country follows the rule of law, officials facing serious allegations should be removed from their responsibilities and investigated.

Gurung Calls For Due Process

Gurung's comments underline the difference between raising allegations and establishing responsibility.

The Home Minister said complaints should be investigated, but individuals should not be declared guilty simply because accusations have been made against them.

The issue has now raised questions about how parliamentary committees should handle allegations against senior officials while ensuring that investigations remain fair and follow due process.
