Home Minister Sudhan Gurung And Devanganj Victims’ Families Sign Seven Point Agreement

The Government of Nepal and the families of two young men who lost their lives during a clash in Devanganj Rural Municipality 3 of Sunsari have reached a seven point agreement aimed at addressing the families' demands and ensuring justice for the victims.

The agreement was formally signed on Thursday night following talks between the Ministry of Home Affairs and the families of Om Prakash Mehta and Jay Prakash Mehta, who were killed in the incident on Shrawan 10. Home Minister Sudhan Gurung signed the agreement on behalf of the Government of Nepal in the presence of the victims' families.

The agreement came after the families sought justice, compensation, and government recognition for the two deceased youths. The government has pledged to take immediate steps to fulfill the commitments outlined in the agreement.

Key Points Of The Seven Point Agreement

• The Government of Nepal will immediately begin the process of declaring Om Prakash Mehta and Jay Prakash Mehta as martyrs.

• Each bereaved family will receive Rs 10 lakh in financial relief from the government.

• A fair, impartial, and effective investigation will be carried out, and those found responsible will face legal action under existing laws.

• One qualified member from each victim's family will be provided with an employment opportunity.

• The recommendations made by the investigation committee formed to study the incident will be implemented as soon as possible.

• A memorial park will be constructed in coordination with the local government to honor the memory of the two victims.

• Both sides agreed to work together to ensure the commitments are implemented without unnecessary delay.

The agreement was signed on behalf of the victims' families by the parents of Om Prakash Mehta and Naresh Mehta, representing the family of Jay Prakash Mehta. Home Minister Sudhan Gurung signed the document on behalf of the Government of Nepal.

Government officials said the agreement is intended to provide relief to the grieving families while ensuring accountability and addressing the concerns raised after the deadly incident. The commitments also focus on recognizing the sacrifice of the victims and supporting their families through financial assistance and employment opportunities.

The final rites of Om Prakash Mehta and Jay Prakash Mehta are scheduled to be held at 2:00 PM on Friday.

Authorities are expected to begin implementing the agreed commitments in the coming days, particularly the martyr declaration process, financial assistance, investigation, and legal proceedings.
