Kusunti’s Long-Delayed Disabled-Friendly Overhead Bridge Construction Restarts
Construction has resumed on the long-delayed disabled-friendly overhead bridge with lifts at Kusunti after remaining incomplete for years. The Rs 4.68 crore project by Lalitpur Metropolitan City aims to improve road safety and provide easier access for pedestrians, senior citizens, children, and people with disabilities.

Lalitpur Metropolitan City has restarted construction of the disabled-friendly overhead bridge with lifts over the Ring Road at Kusunti, Ward No. 13, reviving a long-delayed Rs 4 crore 68 lakh 9 thousand 561 infrastructure project whose foundation stone was laid by Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan on March 11, 2024. The bridge, originally expected to be completed within one year, is being built to provide a safer and more accessible road crossing for pedestrians, children, senior citizens, and people with disabilities, while reducing the risks of crossing one of the Valley’s busiest roads.
The project was launched by Lalitpur Metropolitan City as part of its efforts to improve pedestrian safety and accessibility. The overhead bridge has been designed with lifts on both sides, allowing wheelchair users, elderly people, and others with limited mobility to cross the Ring Road more conveniently.
Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan laid the foundation stone for the project during a special religious ceremony on March 11, 2024. Despite the initial plan to complete the bridge within a year, construction stopped after the early phase, leaving behind a half-built structure that remained untouched for years and became a symbol of delayed public infrastructure.
The resumption of construction has renewed optimism among local residents and daily commuters. Many believe the completed bridge will significantly improve pedestrian safety, reduce dangerous road crossings, and make travel easier for people who require additional support.
Residents are now closely monitoring the progress of the project, hoping the renewed construction continues without further interruption and that the long-awaited bridge is finally completed to serve the community as originally intended.
