Government Officials Banned From Using Personal Social Media During Office Hours
The Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security has introduced a new code of conduct for its employees, restricting the use of social media during office hours.

The Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security has introduced a new code of conduct for its employees, restricting the use of social media during office hours. The rule has been issued to ensure discipline and improve professional behavior across the ministry and its subordinate offices.
According to the new code approved by Minister Ramjee Yadav on 31 Baisakh, employees are not allowed to use platforms like Facebook, X, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, and TikTok for personal purposes during office hours. Even outside office hours, employees are restricted from sharing or engaging in content that may harm the dignity of public service or spread misleading information.
The code also prohibits employees from posting complaints or internal issues on social media or media outlets. Instead, such matters must be reported through official channels. It further requires staff to use only official email accounts for government work and follow strict cybersecurity measures, including security audits and vulnerability checks.
The guideline applies to all permanent, contract, and deputed staff under the ministry. Employees will also need to sign a written commitment to follow the rules, and any violation may lead to legal action under existing laws. The ministry says the move aims to make government services more responsible, secure, and technology-friendly.
