Nepali Eye Specialists Restore Sight To Hundreds In Bangladesh Through Free Eye Camp
Nepali eye specialists have travelled to Bangladesh to provide free eye care services, helping hundreds of patients regain their vision through examinations and cataract surgeries.

A team of Nepali eye specialists has helped restore vision for hundreds of people in Bangladesh through a free eye camp organized in Thakurgaon.
The five-day camp, which started on August 2, is being conducted by Biratnagar Eye Hospital under the Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh in collaboration with the Thakurgaon Diabetes Committee.
By the second day of the program, Nepali doctors had provided free eye examinations to 1,365 people and successfully performed cataract surgeries on 136 patients.
13-Member Nepali Medical Team Providing Treatment
A 13-member medical team from Biratnagar Eye Hospital is providing specialized eye care services at the camp.
The team includes senior ophthalmologists and experienced eye health workers, including:

The team is offering eye examinations, disease diagnosis, medicine distribution and cataract surgery free of cost.
Camp Aims To Help 3,000 Bangladeshi Citizens
The health initiative aims to provide eye care services to around 3,000 Bangladeshi citizens, especially those who have limited access to affordable treatment.
The organizers said the program has been running since 2023 and has already supported thousands of economically disadvantaged people across different districts of Bangladesh.
Strengthening Nepal-Bangladesh Health Cooperation
Speaking at the inauguration program, Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh President Prof. Dr. Chet Raj Pant highlighted the importance of increasing access to Nepal’s international-standard eye care services.
He suggested simplifying visa procedures and introducing direct flights between Biratnagar and Saidpur to promote health tourism and strengthen medical cooperation between the two countries.
Nepali Embassy representative in Bangladesh Prateek Karki also said Nepal’s affordable and quality eye treatment services are helping establish the country as an attractive health tourism destination.
Nepal’s Growing Role In Eye Healthcare
Over the past four decades, Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh has expanded eye care services through 28 eye hospitals and 226 eye care centers across Nepal.
The organization has also provided technical support, training and free eye camps in countries including India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Cambodia and Ethiopia.
The increasing number of Bangladeshi patients visiting Nepal for eye treatment reflects growing trust in Nepal’s healthcare services.
Health Diplomacy Through Medical Support
The Thakurgaon eye camp is being viewed as more than a medical program, as it strengthens people-to-people relations between Nepal and Bangladesh.
Healthcare cooperation between the two countries is helping expand access to specialized treatment while improving Nepal’s reputation in the field of affordable eye care.
