NEPSE Trading Suspended Today After Technical Problem Hits Data Center

KATHMANDU: Trading at the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) has been suspended for Monday after a technical problem affected the data center where servers of 72 NEPSE trading member companies are hosted.

NEPSE said the problem was detected in the morning and remained unresolved despite efforts to restore the system.

Technical Problem Disrupts Trading

According to NEPSE, the technical issue occurred at its data hub, which houses the servers used by 72 trading member companies.

Technical teams have been working to resolve the problem, but the issue had not been fixed when the regular trading session was due to begin.

Because of the continuing disruption, NEPSE decided not to open the market for Monday's session.

Risk to Main Trading System

NEPSE said conducting trading under the current technical conditions could potentially cause damage to its main trading system.

The exchange therefore postponed the regular trading session rather than operate while the technical problem remained unresolved.

The Stock Broker Association of Nepal had also requested that trading be suspended in view of the technical difficulties.

Trading Postponed Under Existing Regulation

NEPSE said Monday's trading session was postponed under Rule 21(1) of the Securities Listing and Trading Regulations, 2075.

The decision means investors will not be able to conduct regular share trading through NEPSE during Monday's session.

NEPSE has not indicated in the provided notice when the technical issue will be fully resolved or whether any further trading schedule changes will be required.
