Ramesh Buda Arrested for Allegedly Killing Nisha Sunuwar Over Rs 1 Lakh in Kathmandu Guest House

A dispute over Rs 1 lakh allegedly ended in the killing of a 25-year-old woman inside a guest house near Kathmandu’s New Bus Park, according to police.

Police have arrested Ramesh Buda of Dailekh on suspicion of killing Nisha Sunuwar, originally from Dhangadhi Metropolitan City-7 in Kailali.

Sunuwar had been living in the Machhapokhari area of Kathmandu.

Kathmandu Senior Superintendent of Police Dilip Ghimire said Buda was arrested near Hotel Shambala in Maharajgunj after investigators traced his movements following the discovery of Sunuwar’s body.

According to the preliminary investigation, Buda allegedly strangled Sunuwar with the belt he was wearing and concealed her body inside the structure of a bed in the hotel room.

The body remained undiscovered for several days, even though other people reportedly stayed and slept in the same room.

A Journey Home That Ended at Kathmandu’s New Bus Park

Police said Buda had been living and working in Kaski district and was travelling from Pokhara to his home district of Dailekh.

He arrived at the New Bus Park in Balaju on Asar 31.

According to investigators, Buda was carrying Rs 1 lakh and had already informed his family that he was returning home with the money.

However, before he could continue his journey, he met Sunuwar on the main road near the bus park.

Police said Sunuwar approached Buda and asked whether he wanted to go to a hotel.

Buda reportedly agreed, and the two entered a nearby guest house room.

Police Say Sunuwar Asked Buda to Take a Shower

According to the statement Buda gave investigators, Sunuwar asked him to take a shower after they entered the room.

Buda reportedly went into the bathroom.

He told police that Sunuwar then locked the bathroom door from outside, took Rs 1 lakh from his bag and left the guest house.

When Buda later came out of the bathroom, he allegedly found that Sunuwar and the money were both gone.

Police said he was particularly distressed because he had already informed his family that he was bringing the money home.

Buda Contacted a Friend After the Money Went Missing

After discovering that the cash was missing, Buda contacted his friend Dan Bahadur Shahi.

Police said Dan Bahadur had booked room number 404 at another hotel near the New Bus Park.

Buda reportedly met Dan Bahadur at the hotel, where the two ate food and drank beer.

Afterward, Buda left the room and began searching for Sunuwar in the Balaju, Machhapokhari and New Bus Park areas.

Sunuwar Found Again the Following Day

Police said Buda found Sunuwar in the New Bus Park area on Asar 32.

At the time, Buda was allegedly wearing a mask.

Investigators believe Sunuwar did not immediately recognise him.

According to police, Buda approached her in a similar manner and asked whether she wanted to go to a hotel.

He then allegedly took her to room number 404, which had been booked by Dan Bahadur.

The Confrontation Inside Room Number 404

After entering the room, Buda allegedly removed his mask and questioned Sunuwar about the Rs 1 lakh he claimed she had stolen.

Police said Sunuwar then recognised him.

Investigators believe an argument began between the two over the missing money.

According to police, Sunuwar attempted to attack Buda with a beer bottle that was inside the room.

Buda allegedly restrained her during the confrontation.

Police Say Buda Used His Belt to Strangle Her

According to the preliminary investigation, Buda removed the belt he was wearing and tightened it around Sunuwar’s neck.

Police said Sunuwar lost consciousness and died during the assault.

Investigators also reported finding injuries on her body that appeared to have been caused by a bottle.

Police are examining the exact sequence of events through forensic evidence, witness statements and other materials collected during the investigation.

Body Allegedly Hidden Inside the Bed

After the killing, Buda allegedly concealed Sunuwar’s body inside the structure of the bed in the hotel room.

Police said no visible blood was found at the scene when officers later examined the room.

Investigators believe the way the body was concealed prevented hotel staff and guests from immediately noticing what had happened.

Friend Returned Without Knowing About the Killing, Police Say

Dan Bahadur later returned to room number 404.

According to police officers involved in the investigation, he did not know that Sunuwar had been killed or that her body had been hidden inside the bed.

Police said Buda and Dan Bahadur ate food inside the room and then slept on the same bed under which the body had allegedly been concealed.

The two left the hotel the following day.

Other Guests Later Slept in the Same Room

Police said the same room was rented to other customers on Shrawan 1.

Those guests also reportedly slept on the bed without knowing that a body was hidden inside it.

No one discovered the body at that time.

The room continued to be used until hotel staff noticed a foul smell several days later.

Foul Smell Led Staff to Call Police

On Shrawan 3, hotel employees were cleaning the room when they noticed a strong and unusual smell.

They became suspicious and informed police.

Officers arrived at the guest house and searched the room.

During the search, they found Sunuwar’s body hidden inside the bed.

The discovery prompted police to review hotel records, identify people who had stayed in the room and trace their movements.

Police Traced Buda to Maharajgunj

Following the investigation, police identified Ramesh Buda as the main suspect.

SSP Ghimire said Buda was arrested near Hotel Shambala in Maharajgunj.

Police are examining telephone records, hotel documents, witness statements and the movements of those connected to the case.

Dan Bahadur Arrested in Nepalgunj for Questioning

Police also arrested Dan Bahadur in Nepalgunj and brought him to Kathmandu for questioning.

Investigators questioned him about his presence in room number 404 and his contact with Buda before and after the killing.

However, SSP Ghimire said the investigation conducted so far indicates that Buda alone was directly involved in Sunuwar’s death.

Police have not publicly announced evidence showing that Dan Bahadur knew about the killing when he returned to the room.

Investigation Still Underway

Police are continuing to investigate whether anyone helped conceal evidence or assisted Buda before or after the incident.

Investigators are also reviewing forensic findings, hotel records, digital evidence and statements from witnesses.

The final post-mortem and forensic reports have not yet been publicly released.

The allegations against Ramesh Buda have not yet been proven in court, and the case remains under investigation.
