16-Year-Old Nepali Climber Tshering Pasang Sherpa Becomes One Of Everest’s Youngest Summiteers After Reaching The World’s Highest Peak During Record-Breaking 2026 Climbing Season Shortly After His SEE Results

Nepali teenager Tshering Pasang Sherpa has become one of the youngest climbers ever to summit Mount Everest after reaching the world’s highest peak on May 20 at the age of just 16 years, five months, and 20 days. His climb came during the busy 2026 Everest season, only one day before 274 climbers reached the summit in a single day.
While many students across Nepal were waiting for their SEE results, Tshering Pasang was focused on weather conditions, climbing equipment, and Everest’s dangerous routes. He later scored a 3.63 GPA with an A+ grade, but according to his family, his true passion was always mountaineering. His uncle, Da Dendi Sherpa, said Tshering wanted to climb Everest at the age of 13, but Nepal’s minimum age rule delayed his dream. During the waiting years, he trained through mountain biking and rock climbing.
Mountaineering runs strongly in his family. His father, Lakpa Temba Sherpa, is a three-time Everest summiteer, while his mother, Dolma Lama Sherpa, has also climbed Everest. Before attempting Everest this year, Tshering climbed Lobuche East for preparation. After finally receiving permission, he successfully completed the expedition and now hopes to climb dangerous peaks like K2 and Annapurna I as part of his future career in mountaineering.
