UK to Provide Technical and Financial Support to Rebuild Flood-Damaged Galchhi–Rasuwagadhi Road

KATHMANDU: The UK government will provide technical and financial support for the reconstruction and restoration of the Galchhi–Rasuwagadhi road, which was damaged by the recent Bhotekoshi floods.

The commitment was shared during a meeting between Infrastructure Development Minister Sunil Lamsal and a delegation from the British Embassy led by Senior Development Counsellor Alex Lewis at the ministry on Monday.

The meeting focused on the reconstruction and restoration of the road section affected by the flooding.

Support for Bailey Bridges and Road Restoration

According to the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, the UK government has agreed to provide assistance for the construction and reconstruction of Bailey bridges required along the damaged road.

The support will also cover other necessary reconstruction and restoration works along the road section.

The Galchhi–Rasuwagadhi route is an important road connection toward the northern border, making its restoration significant following the flood damage.

UK to Support Disaster-Resilient Development

The UK has also expressed its commitment to supporting Nepal in several other areas, according to the ministry.

These include:

The two sides discussed areas where international cooperation could support Nepal’s recovery and strengthen infrastructure resilience against future disasters.

Reconstruction After Bhotekoshi Floods

The Bhotekoshi floods caused significant damage to roads and other infrastructure in the region.

The UK’s proposed technical and financial assistance will support efforts to restore connectivity along the Galchhi–Rasuwagadhi corridor while addressing immediate infrastructure needs.

The ministry said cooperation in disaster-resilient development will also help Nepal strengthen its infrastructure against future natural disasters.
